On-Track 4WD Photo Albums > June snows 2013

Around 19/20th June the South Island had a huge snow storm. The worst in the last 20 years so they say. I had to go to Christchurch so I went via the Lewis Pass and Donald's place at Mt Lyford. He had about 1.5 mtrs at his house which made it difficult seeing as he lives on a hill well above the road.
There was only about 25cm on the Lewis, none till about half way to Hanmer after which it really started to stack up.
I came home via Arthurs Pass but unfortunately the light was getting thin early evening. I ran into snow on the ground at Springfield which did not end untill I got to Otira. It was about 75cm deep on Porters Pass. Graders had been working from Springfield all the way to Otira to keep the road open.
Many areas down thru Canterbury and Otago no doubted had it as heavy if not heavier.
